There are many other sites, which invite users to write articles in return for a share of the site's revenue.
Of these, the closest business model to HubPages, and its main competitor, is Squidoo. HubPages differs from Squidoo in that it will not allow overly-promotional Hubs (i.e Hubs which are written solely to promote a single product or service), and its "HubScore" system heavily penalises duplicate content (articles that are already published elsewhere on the internet). Some Hubbers find these measures restrictive, but it has prevented the spamming problems experienced at Squidoo, and helped to maintain the quality of the site.

Affiliate programs like PPC(Pay-per-click) like Google adsense, PTR(Paid-to-read) and PTC(paid-to-click) programs have recently gained popularity among people all around the world. Quite recently, online marketing affilliate programs like eBay and Amazon have also gained popularity. All these programs are a good, substantial and source of income.

The uniqueness and benefit in Hubpages is that you can link your Hubpages account directly with the affiliate companies rather applying to each of them separately. Google will automatically display Adsense Ads on your once you create your hubs. Similarly, Kontera will display their Ads once you hub is published. Similarly, you can choose to opt for marketing affiliate programs such as eBay or Amazon. Once you have become a member of Hubpages, you can create as many Hubs as you wish and display all the affiliate functionalies on all your hubs. The more hubs you create, the greater are your earning opportunities. Some featured hubbers even create more than 200 hubs.

You can earn money from your hubs when people click on the adsense ads that are on your hub. The way money is made is Google will pay each publisher (website owner) close to half the revenue generated when the ads are clicked on. That means Google is paying the owner of hubpages money to display the ads on this site.
To help build the hubpages community,  Hubpages will share that revenue with you if you have an adsense account. If you don't have one you can apply for one from Google. It costs nothing and is easy to set up.
After you have set up your adsense account, you can then edit your hubpages account info so that you can get credited for the ad clicks on your hubs.

Chances are you DO have content that can be improved. Now that you've did some better keywords for your articles or pages, follow these suggestions to help better rank your page in google, thus increasing targeted traffic, thus increasing your google adsense revenue!

1. Change the title of your page to a keyword phrase (or two keyword phrases) that are identical to the keyword that you are competing for traffic from google.
2. Within the body of your article, look for all the words that relate to your keyword, perhaps 'it' or 'this piece' or 'this item'.

Keyword Density is the percentage of occurrence of your keywords to the text in the rest of your webpage. It is important for your main keywords to have the correct keyword density to rank well in Search Engines.

1. Do you have photos on your page? Save them to your hard drive and rename them to the keyword title with dashes (-) sepearating each word "my-keyword-phrase", then re-upload them. This helps Google know your page is really about my-keyword-phrase.

A backlink could be considered as a Quality Backlink if
1. The Theme of the backlinking website is the same as your website.
2. It links to your website with the keyword (keyphrase) that you are trying to optimize for.

When you do a hub you can add an ebay capsule to include products related to your hub. For example, for a hub about the new movie Transformers, you can add ebay stuff your visitors may be interested in such as Transformers TShirts and add some dvds and games from Amazon.
